What I’ll Wear: Prepping for Valentine’s Day

Next week marks the yearly day of love (Valentine’s Day) and I’m already prepping my look for a potential date night.

I’m trying to keep it a bit low key this year with a simple, yet sophisticated, look. I’ve been a bit busy with activities and events recently so an outfit that is easy to piece together is something that appeals most to me. However, I still want an ensemble that looks like I put in some effort.

So voila! I assembled today’s potential look to wear next Tuesday.

Today’s Valentine’s Day look is anchored by the color black, with pops of color and glitz here and there.

I decided to whip out my black, lacey, boutique dress because it’s warm for the weather, but still flirty and flattering. The sleeves are see-through lace and are fashioned into flowy bell sleeves.

What I love most about this dress is the slight v-neck style at the top. Usually, I’d opt for shift-style or boat neck dresses, so this particular cut is a little out of my comfort zone.

For a pop of color against the black I decided to use my beloved J Crew, pink, necklace as a focal point. The pink is perfect for the holiday without being too overtly “Valentine’s Day!!!! Look at me!”

Also, despite the lower cut of the neck, a bauble necklace is perfect for the piece because doesn’t compete or fall into the dress.

You could add color with some earrings and lipstick as well. But with a necklace you draw more attention to the face; which is my intention with this look.

For one last element to keep your eye moving up and down the outfit I rediscovered my perfectly-sized, gold and black, chain purse that both works as a crossbody bag or clutch. This shine is not too blingy but still adds a new textural element to my look that perfectly compliments the black, sassy, lace.

Curious to know the breakdown of my look? I’d be happy to share where everything came from! My outfit consisted of:

Black Lace Dress: Lush, under $7 (Originally about $50): Rockville Goodwill

Metallic and chain strap purse: No brand, New with Tags, under $7, (Originally $50): Gaithersburg Goodwill

Pink bauble necklace: J. Crew, $12.99 (originally $50+): Gaithersburg Goodwill

Knee-High Boots: 18th and Union

Outfit total (Goodwill items): Under $40! Oh, my!

What will you be wearing for Valentine’s Day?
