What I Wore: Striped Looks Just Before the Winter

Fashionistas, I’m really not looking forward to the snow. But I do want to share a few looks before the brisk winter change, that includes layering to help you adjust.

Today’s look is comprised mostly of Goodwill finds, aside from the boots and a few accessories.

One of my favorite ways to style an outfit is to create a base with all black items and then incorporate large pops of color and shapes through one or two items. For this look, I chose this striped navy and red blazer by Forever 21 to be the focal point.

This tactic makes the look not only quite affordable (black basics are easy to find at Goodwill stores), but also an easy way to integrate those hard-to-style statement pieces without putting in too much effort.

For example, when I picked up this navy and red striped nautical-inspired blazer, I was at a loss for what I’d wear it with. Jeans? A skirt? I had no idea.

Once I laid it out with small black items that varied in style and shape, the look instantly came together. The only elements of style I played with were the variations of black items such as the looseness, the cut of the pants, and the cropped top.

Then to tie the look together, I wanted to add in another variation with visuals. Instead of opting for my typical black booties, I decided to try on these designer buckle booties instead, and it somehow made sense. Although my booties are not from Goodwill, I’ve seen similar pairs on the DC Goodwill racks, just not in my size. Since I have smaller feet, it’s harder to find good shoes secondhand!

Just by experimenting with laying items on my bed with one another, I came up with this winter transition ensemble!

Curious to know the breakdown of my look? I’d be happy to share where everything came from! My outfit consisted of:

Striped navy and red blazer: Forever 21, under $7, Rockville Goodwill

Black piano key necklace, no brand, $8.99, Gaithersburg Goodwill

Black cropped top: Express, $2.99, Alexandria Goodwill

Black Marc by Marc Jacobs purse: Marc by Marc Jacobs, under $15, (Originally $200+) Gaithersburg Goodwill

Black high-waisted pants: No brand, $6.99, Rockville Goodwill

Mod sunnies: Spitfire

Booties: Rebecca Minkoff

Outfit total (Goodwill items): Under $42! Holy cow!

Talk about a steal! This look would have originally been $500+!

What are your thoughts on my winter transition look, fashionistas?
