What I Wore: J Crew Plaid n’ Fur

Fashionistas, this DC weather has been crazy, hectic, and erratic. I don’t know what to keep in my closet and what to pack away!

One day it’s incredibly warm out and then the next it’s breezy and cold.

Today’s outfit I wore on one of the cold days… and I have a feeling we’ll have a few more before spring finally decides it’s going to stay.

The best thing about cold temperatures is the ability and freedom to layer anything you want together. I’m especially all about stacking different textures, like this fur vest and vintage leather skirt from Goodwill. Both items are black, but the fabric and composition of each piece make them unique and visually complex.

With this particular look I wanted to stay on the edgy side. However, I did want to add one unexpected preppy component through my J Crew, boy-style, button-up.

I’m just going to say one thing. I’M ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THIS SHIRT! It’s light and breezy, yet the color scheme is neutral and dark. This allows it to match most everything in my closet!

For one last added touch of vintage-style flair, I opted to rock my statement piece snake necklace I got at the Gaithersburg store for under $10. I swear, I wear this necklace with everything.

When I first got it, I wasn’t sure how to rock it because it is so showy. However, after much experimentation, I pair it with mostly monotone and black ensembles. I learned this gem is actually easily wearable and has a permanent home in my jewelry box. Fashion tip: for statement jewelry, wear a basic outfit underneath. The piece will pop without being too over the top.
