My Favorite Thing (From Goodwill): Vintage Straw Bag

I owe 100% of the credit to you on this favorite thrifted item, dear readers. Last Friday, I took the day off of work to have some quality “me” time so naturally, I ended up at the Glebe Road Goodwill. As I was perusing the racks, I stumbled upon this intriguing vintage basket weave purse. It had a thick, shiny varnish which seemed to keep it in impeccable shape over the years. I’ll admit, this was another one of those “is this downright awful or uniquely cool” type of situations. I’m sure if you’ve ever shopped second hand, you’ve had one of these.

Here was my in-store opinion shot!

I turned to you via Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to get an opinion on this piece. Isn’t social media awesome? It was like I immediately had 10 fashion consultants telling me how to style this piece and then, I just HAD to get it. I trust you, fashionistas, so I snagged it for just $9.98. I have really grown to love the length of the gold chain strap. Upon purchasing, I fully intended to carry it as a clutch but after trying it out at home, I decided the shorter strap was actually quite chic. It’s like modern Golden Girls-esque, don’t you think?

I love the shell style golden clasp. It is all in the details with this piece!

When I decided that this was going to be my new fun summer bag, I didn’t really have an idea of how much a straw purse could cost. After doing a little research, I came to the conclusion that snagging this style from Goodwill was an amazing deal! Look at the prices of some similar styles.

I’d say this was a super score. Thanks for your help, dear readers! I left with a happy and healthy wallet (which I can now fit into my vintage straw basket weave purse!).
