My favorite thing (from Goodwill): Beach layers

J.Crew top and Gap jeans from GoodwillA few of my new favorite finds from Goodwill don’t appear to be right for summer at first glance, but I beg to differ.

While visiting Goodwill Keystone Area, I hit the jeans jackpot. The big bonus of shopping consistently at a few stores (or scouting for your favorite labels at Goodwill) is that once you know your size, you can usually take a chance and purchase that great find without trying it on. That’s exactly what happened with this pair of Gap 1969 skinny jeans that I scored for about $6. A similar pair on the Gap site right now? $70. When I see my size, I grab it.

To balance the body-hugging jeans, I chose a slightly oversized top from J.Crew. The flannel is soft, but lightweight. The sleeves are perfect for rolling. It says “casual,” but not “sloppy.”

These new bargains are off to the beach with me this summer. They’ll be perfect for nights on the boardwalk, or windy, rainy afternoons. We all hope for perfect weather when we’re on vacation, but Mother Nature does get her way from time to time. Best to be prepared with layers that are comfortable and cute!

Here’s a bonus tip for you, fashionistas:

Jean pocket placement

Do you see where my rear pockets are, darlings? They are on my butt. They aren’t creeping down ┬áthe backs of my thighs. If your pockets don’t stay firmly on your rear end, they don’t fit. This can particularly be a problem with low-rise jeans. Next time you try on a pair of jeans, make sure you look behind you in the fitting room mirror. Make sure those pockets are where they’re supposed to be. “The more you know,” dear readers!
