My Favorite Thing (from Goodwill): Black Vintage Palazzo Pants

Dear readers, I’m here to kick off my first post as the new DC Goodwill Fashionista (read my previous DCGF guest posts) with one of my favorite finds of all time from Goodwill! And let me tell you something about myself, I’ve been shopping at Goodwill for a really really long time and I have a lot of favorite pieces, so it was really difficult for me to actually pick one item out to write about for my first post. I swear, it must have taken me many sleepless nights to think of one of my all time favorite pieces. But luckily, one morning when I woke up, I had an epiphany — these lovely draping black pants popped into my mind as one of my favorite finds ever.

It’s really hard finding a pair of pants that fits just right. I think every woman, man, child, and literally everyone has this problem. We all come in different shapes and sizes and pants are just one of those things that have to fit the way you want. When a pair of pants doesn’t fit right, I feel like you can see it in one’s face and in the way they carry themselves. A proper-fitting pair of pants provides a lot of confidence and makes you feel like you defeated a battle. Not to mention that they are gloriously comfortable, too. So being my petite self, when I find a pair of bottoms that fit well,  it feels like I’ve won the lottery!

When I found these pants at the Goodwill in Rockville last year, it was one of those trips when I had a lot of time to kill and I didn’t mind spending some extra time perusing the racks. It must have been my second or third time when going through the skirts section (of all places!), when these babies revealed themselves. The first thing that caught my attention was the fabric. They were soft, flowing and they moved when a breeze came by. When the breeze moved the fabric, I noticed that these were palazzo pants — something that I’d been seeking  for ages. It was then and there I knew that these were something to write home about. So fast forward when I tried these on, I was floating on clouds and had stars in my eyes. They fit me in all the right ways, were high waisted, cost only $6, and sported a vintage clothing tag: four of my favorite things.

So obviously, I brought these home with me, and I’ve sported them many many times up to this day. To be honest, I don’t like repeating the same unique items of clothing too often, so this item is pretty special, but I digress.  I wear these vintage beauties in the winter with boots, in the summer with crop tops, to work, to the park, and on dates. You name the occasion, and these can work. I can’t restate enough that these are so incredibly versatile that I feel like I could wear them to bed and then wear them to a fancy occasion the following day.

Every time I wear these, I like to rock them with different types of tops. In the past, I’ve worn printed and animal print crop tops, black long sleeves, and other similar garments. I usually stray away from sweaters and whatnot because I like items that I can easily and simply tuck into these pants. In the outfit I wore this past week, I sported my pants with a nice comfy designer black sheer silk button up top and statement vintage earrings to work. I was going for a sleek Grace Jones kind of look I suppose, that was work appropriate (I work somewhere that allows a little dress-code freedom), and had a touch of edge.  I opted for my beloved purple jellies (because I was walking to the office), but I sometimes wear my favorite Goodwill find with heels. I kept my jewelry pretty simple, but did wear some statement earrings to give a little pop against my all black ensemble.

You will definitely see me in another future post rocking these again, using a whole other look.  I’m totally obsessed.

I look forward to sharing my thoughts, finds, and obsessions with you as the new DCGF! <3

H0w would you rock these pants? Have you found any pants or bottoms at Goodwill that you cannot live without?

Wait. I’m confused. Didn’t a different new DCGF start just a couple of months before you? What happened? Not that I’m complaining (I like you better anyway). Just confused about the change without an announcement.
