Get your home ready for Halloween with Goodwill finds

Jar Jack O LanternsWhether your not into costumes so much or maybe you’re planning a huge Halloween bash—you know that your decor can help set the scene.

But the only thing spookier than a well-decorated haunted house is the thought of shelling out big bucks for fun decorative items that you can only use for one month out of the year. Eek!

Relax. We’ve got you covered in the party prep department. If you want the best trick-or-treat stop on the block, all you need to do is consider the decorations du jour at Goodwill!

Here are some easy decorating projects made possible by pre-loved goods at your local retail store:

  • Grab a handful of wine glasses or tumblers and decorate them with acrylic paint. You can make your ordinary drinking vessels a side of spookiness by painting on cobwebs, jack-o-lanterns, or ghosts!
  • Looking for a classic orange plastic pumpkin for hauling candy treats or giving them out from your porch? Goodwill’s gotta have at least a few.
  • A simple fall wreath can be a little more scary by adding some stretched out batting, cheesecloth, or tulle. Choose white for the cobweb look, or go with black for general gloom and doom!
  • Nothing says “dark and stormy night” quite like a generous helping of candles. Stop by Goodwill to find inexpensive candle holders for tapers or pillar candles. Spray paint black or orange to be ready for Halloween! You may even find some candles to light for the big night. (If you need some spray painting tips, check out this guest post from DIY-queen Deb!)
  • Mason jars or hurricane jars can be used for potions or snacks. Label accordingly! Tie with orange ribbon or paint on some skulls and crossbones.

I started a Pinterest board to collect Halloween decor and costume ideas. What neat crafts and tips should I add to make this a spooky-but-savvy Halloween? Remember, you can always tweet me @dcgf.

this is nice! my brother always wanted to try those halloween pumpkins, sadly, we dont have access to such and if ever we did our economic status wouldnt allow us to carve out an entire pumpkin for decoration lights, but this will certainly do!
