Summertime strolling at the Fashion Yards

Do you love to shop and consider yourself a fashionista? Reserve June 7th in your calendar and get ready for a unique shopping spree at The Yards as several 4-wheeled fashion boutiques merge together in one lane for one day at “FASHION YARDS. You will find everything from vintage jewels and threads to $10-and-under dresses to even Jimmy Choos!” The instant I got to that last line, fashionistas, I was sold.

After viewing the premiere of ‘The Politics of Fashion’ last week, I’ve been left feeling inspired to help take part in fostering the creative community of our fashion industry here in the District. Saturday at the Fashion Yards I felt the warm embrace of that entrepreneurial spirit. The event featured a street full of fashion boutique trucks and pop-up shops; this was a fantastic highlight of the creative talent of our community. Fashion trucks included Arden Reed, Pichardo Boutique, Street Boutique, Style Ride Boutique, The Thread Truck, Saivita Floral Design Truck, Tin Lizzy, Urban Pearl and pop-up shops from Reddz Trading/Charm Boutique, Typecase, Lettie Gooch, Carnelian, Duo, Handmade Habitat, Rosies and Rockers, Hipp Gyps, Solsak, Soyini Baby, Stubble and ‘Stache, Bull & Moose, Zestt, Tugooh Toys.

Shopping at The Fashion Yards

My favorite fashion truck? Hands down, Pichardo Boutique. This truck featured a great mix of new and resale clothing items which was right up my alley being your Goodwill gal. Fashionistas, I am sure you’re beginning to catch on to my weakness when it comes to shopping. So, naturally, I took a liking to Pichardo because they had an amazing display of resale shoes. Not to mention, how cool is it that their ‘truck’ is actually a bus full of unique fashion finds?

Highlights of the pop-up shops included a display of local designer, Erika Schrieber, with her spring line; her work culminates a classic simplicity with trendy flare. We’ve heard a lot of debate about the crop top this season but line definitely sold me on it; you’ve got to check her out. There was an awesome DJ under the pop-up shops tent, too, which made for the ultimate entertaining shopping experience. I made all my purchases of the day at the Reddz Trading pop-up, scoring two pairs of amazing designer shoes for $65.

I plan to style these Sergio Rossi sandals with a bold printed dress for work or a printed cropped pants; they are not quite nude and not quite white so I’m deeming them the perfect neutral. The Marc Jacobs wedges were just too fun not to pick up; they’ll be perfect with a white flowy top and skinny jean.
