Guest blogger: Chic and cheap spring break essentials

If you have a lavish spring break planned or are currently taking one, all of us stuck in the DMV are beyond envious right now. We’ve had a long, brutal winter and that has left one thing on my mind: warmer weather. I wish I could say I have an extravagant trip planned to a tropical paradise, but instead, I’ve decided to live vicariously through all you spring breakers by putting together the “musts” of a chic (and cheap!) spring break. Check out these fashion staples for a warmer-weather getaway gathered from our local DC Goodwill stores.

Flirty tops from Goodwill

Flirty Tops:

If you’re headed toward the sandy beaches of Florida, you’ll definitely want to pack a few statement tops. Stick with bright colors and eye-catching patterns to catch the gazes of your fellow spring breakers. I loved these tops found at the Columbia Pike Goodwill store. They all incorporate New York Fashion Week Spring 2014 trends that I loved: chiffon, monochrome, pleats and corporate style. You can find tops just like these for under $5.00 every day at Goodwill.

White staples from Goodwill

White Staples:

White bottoms are a staple of my personal spring and summer wardrobe. You have lots of options here, including my personal favorite: white linen pants. I scored these Forever 21 white skinny jeans from the Columbia Pike Goodwill for $5.98. While I was browsing, I also found this great pair of Old Navy linen pants that still have the original tags on them! What says spring break more than some comfy, light linen? A white bottom is always a great choice because it makes you look tan and can also be paired with essentially every color. I paired my new pants with a chic pair of gladiator sandals and a large straw beach bag with coral accents that matched this gorgeous Banana Republic peplum top. The linen pants looked awesome with the yellow, floral tank that had the most adorable scalloped hemline.

Goodwill spring shoes

Springtime Shoe Game:

The wedge is your perfect spring break shoe. It’s versatile, it’s comfortable and it’s sexy. If you are trying to pack light, take a metallic or nude pair with you that will match with all colors of your outfits!

Sandals are an absolute staple for any warm weather getaway. They’re easy to pack, easily thrown off when your feet hit that toasty warm sand, and they’ll show off that pedicure you should treat yourself to. Here are some of my favorite thrifty sandals found for under $10!

There you have it, all the essential pieces you need to look fabulous on spring break. Well, almost all, right? It seems like I missed a big one…

Yes, you will probably need to bring a swimsuit as well. But it is far too early for me to starting thinking about swimsuit season, dear readers, so you are on your own on that one!

Swing into Goodwill before taking off on your next spring-venture and you will walk out with a happy wallet that is ready to accompany you on your trip. Happy and safe travels to you!
