Best of Guest Blogger: Fine Prints

I know what you’re thinking (cue Miranda Priestly in the Devil Wears Prada): Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking. Yes, yes, springtime floral prints may not be a new idea, but there is a reason they are so popular this time of year. After a long winter, what better way to brighten up your wardrobe than with some feminine, floral prints? Follow the example of celebrities like Kate Bosworth and Emma Roberts for adding some fine, floral prints to your outfits.

Not yet convinced? The lovely team at Shopbop makes a good point: In nature, prints serve as camouflage. In fashion, they’re just the opposite. With the recent focus on timeless, neutral styles and hues, a colorful print is just the thing to set you apart from the camel crowd.

To play it safe, make sure to wear prints with other solid pieces. Try pairing a printed skirt with a solid top, a printed top with jeans and sandals, or a printed dress with a solid colored cardigan and a neutral belt. Or if you want to mix it up, try pairing a fine, floral print with another print like polka dots, leopard or stripes. Mixed prints were all over the 2011 runway shows, including Balenciaga, Erdem, Cacharel and Proenza Schouler.
