A New Face for Fashion

After three exciting years, I must Lisa and Karen
bitter-sweetly announce that I will no longer be your DC Goodwill Fashionista, dear readers.

We’ve been through a lot together. I’ve conquered grad school, moved three times, and opened my own shop. I’ve visited Goodwill locations in Massachusetts, Missouri, Ohio, and all over the Mid-Atlantic. And if I look around my apartment and closet, I find myself proudly counting off: “That’s secondhand, that’s from Goodwill, that’s from a yard sale I made my boyfriend stop at when he didn’t want to, that’s from Goodwill…”

I’ve met countless Goodwill employees and heard their inspirational stories of struggle and success. I have had the famed Deborah Jackson leap across the store and hug me while simultaneously looking through my shopping cart to see what “treasures” I’ve found. I’ve hosted clothing swappers, trunk-show visitors, and aspiring fashionistas at Goodwill events.

Over my final few posts, I’ll be sharing lessons I’ve learned while serving as your Fashionista. But come June 1, I’m pleased and honored to hand the reins over to Karen, who you’ve seen on this here blog on a regular basis lately. A native of Southern Maryland, Karen recently graduated from Saint Mary’s College—while working nearly full-time for the duration. She is a tireless thrifter, and greets the task of representing Goodwill with boundless enthusiasm. She’s got a passion for nonprofit work and volunteering, and an equal passion for shoes. I can’t think of anyone better to take my place as your DC Goodwill Fashionista.

I look forward to teaming up with her again in the future for a fashionista reunion. (And if you think I’m not taking the title of Fashionista Emeritus, you would be mistaken.)

Lisa, I’ve loved reading your posts, and I even had the pleasure of meeting you once — you’ve always been sweet and classy.
I’m very excited to see the reigns handed over to Karen — another SMC grad who I also had the pleasure of meeting once!
