In our first installment of “Not Feeling It,” we will discuss floral prints. Specifically, this kind of print:
Bleh. Does anyone actually like this dress? If so, please let me know, and explain your reasoning because I just don’t get it.
I mean, I really like bright colors, but these flowers just look like my grandma’s couch. How do you get around that visual image and wear it out in public? I can’t do it.
Here’s another one I don’t like.
What can I say about this? Needlepoint pillows, anyone? 1980’s wallpaper? Would this look good on anyone????
Oh boy, my head is starting to hurt:
It looks like a plastic placemat or tablecloth. Yuck. [All of the dresses posted above are from Forever 21.]
Even Jean-Paul Gaultier is using these prints, which I don’t understand. Please stick to Goth, JPG.
I remember the 90210 girls wearing dresses like these. In fact, here is a picture of the evidence:
Look, Andrea AND Brenda are wearing them! I am pretty sure I had a dress like this, too, I’m very embarrassed to say. It was a floral tank dress, circa 1994. But once was enough for me. I’m not doing that to my friends and family again.
If you really love florals, I would recommend wearing these prints as appetizers, rather than the whole entree. I.e., a floral handbag, scarf, even shoes. A little goes a long way. Just not this.
NEWS FLASH! Dear readers, please be sure to check out my blog post tomorrow, as well as every other Friday through January 22nd! Goodwill of Greater Washington in conjunction with Stella’s Pop Factory has produced a series of entertaining recycling videos starring Miss District of Columbia, Jen Corey, and yours truly, the DC Goodwill Fashionista! The intimate video series follows Miss DC as she shops at Goodwill for recycled furniture and accessories to furnish and transform her new apartment from bland and empty, to chic and colorful, without breaking the bank. Jen’s platform for the Miss America Pageant on January 30th is recycling, and she chose to work with us to showcase her personal recycling efforts and the value of donating and shopping at Goodwill. We also have a musical surprise you won’t want to miss featuring Jen and Grammy nominated artist and producer, Kokayi. You won’t want to miss this!

I actually do love floral prints – some of your examples here are not to my taste. I think the reason I (and I’m sure at least a few other people) are loving these florals that have been trendy the last couple of spring/summer seasons is that very kitsch/upholstery factor – it’s the nostalgia and irony of retro fashions. I like the first one, but the belt kind of trashes it up; the second one is a little lackluster, not enough irony; the third one I LOVE for its in your face-ness. The last photo here just reminds me of those godforsaken poly/rayon dresses-peasant blouses-long skirts of the late 90s with mucky color floral prints and lettuce edge hems. So I think there’s a way to do it right, and a way to do it very wrong, but if you don’t like it when done right, that’s cool too. There are so many awesome print possibilities.

Hey, I like the new blog format. If it were only Brenda wearing floral, I might right it off, but Andrea is hot.

I have to agree with Allie I do also like some floral prints depending on I guess how , “couch like” they look. Some of the floral dresses are actually kind of cute done with the right accessories but I see your point with the place mat one.

I have to disagree. I love the first one and the second and third are cute. I love flowers.
