The Look for Less

I used to watch this show with Elisabeth Hasselbeck and think, I could do that. That’s actually my specialty – seeing a designer look in a magazine that costs thousands of dollars, and finding it in real life for much, much less. Sure, I would probably rather have the real thing, but that’s not how I roll.
I saw this lovely outfit on Alexa Chung from the YSL Belle D’Opium fragrance launch in New York that I just adore! I’ve had a thing for leather shorts for some time now. Hers are YSL, naturally, and would run $1950. I don’t flow like that, so I will find a suitable substitute.
What I love about her outfit is how she tones down the uber-sexiness and tough-chick vibe of the leather shorts with a very understated grey t-shirt, as basic as they come, and another subtle, conservative piece in the ivory cable cardigan. The leather shorts are statement enough, and the outfit doesn’t need anything else to add to the drama. And how about the leather strap hem? I could die.
So let’s get to shopping. For real leather shorts, the least expensive pair I found is here at Urban Outfitters by Sparkle & Fade for $128. Not a bad price:
I also found some gorgeous faux leather shorts by Rachel Roy for $99, but they aren’t that much cheaper than the real leather ones. They are both very, very stylish and come pretty close in shape to the YSL originals.
Now for the heather grey t-shirt. This should be very easy. I started at Target and found this T for $6.98. Not too shabby!
Let’s find a cardigan, shall we? Ivory cable cardigan from Delia’s, $39.50 and it even has similar buttons to the one Alexa is wearing. Score!
Wow, that was pretty easy! I could do this all day. Does anyone have any outfits they want me to find for them for less? I’m ready to work.
