Best of Guest Blogger: New Year’s Resolution: Thrifting More

Hey all! I’m Alison from Chain Strap Purse and I’m so, so happy to be guest blogging today for Goodwill Fashionista!

This post actually came at a perfect time, as one of the things I’ve been saying I want to make a point of doing in the New Year is to start thrifting more. It’s so easy to walk into a store in the mall and find something you love, but thrifting takes equal parts time, skill, patience and luck. But as you’ll see in this post, it really does pay off!

The opportunity to guest blog was the door I needed to thrifting in D.C. I knew I wanted to do an outfit post, so I figured it was the perfect chance to finally hit one of the Goodwill stores to seek out what I would consider a statement piece. It shouldn’t be a surprise that I found multiple items that ended up coming home with me (including the sweater in my outfit post from yesterday), but it was this suede skirt that really caught my eye. Not only is it my size, but it’s 100 percent genuine leather and in mint condition. I’m pretty sure I gasped out loud when I stumbled upon it! Oh, and did I mention the price? It was originally $15, but I went on a Tuesday when everything is 25 percent off. The grand total was $11. I’m convinced it was a sign from the thrift store gods that I need to go back ASAP!

I definitely didn’t need any convincing that thrifting was awesome, but my first foray into the world of second hand finds solidified the need to make it a habit! I’m happy to say I’ve gotten my feet wet and can’t wait to share future finds with my readers!
