Just keep swimming
I was visiting a Goodwill store in Delaware recently, and had my keen eye peeled for vintage items fit for sand and sun. I am well aware that it’s a bit early to be visiting our nearby beaches, but I think of it this way—if I can grab a few items now, I won’t be scrambling when my friends call me up to plan a last-minute getaway.
There weren’t too many items that screamed “summer!” but I did find this neat 1980s romper:

It’s got a great hibiscus print, it’s wide on top to provide shoulder coverage, and there are buttons all down one side to ease in shimmying in and out. Ideal for my beachy road trips this summer? I think so!
I’ve never been a fan of the beach cover-up, but my views are starting to change. Cover-ups are essential for sun protection if you’re going to be outside all day. Having a cover-up with sleeves can save you from goosebumps when you traipse through your hotel after a day at the pool. And if you’re a little on the shy side in your suit, a cover-up can simply make you feel more at ease around fellow beach-goers.
Here are a few of my favorites that I plucked from the Polyvore pool:
Juicy couture dress, $170
Lace top, $50
Marc by Marc Jacobs racerback dress, $118
Diane von furstenberg, $198
Shoshanna, $198
Topshop cover up swimwear, $44
