Trash Cat Clothing ExchangeIf you’re in the DC area and haven’t heard of the Trash Cats, you’re missing out on a creative blend of old and new fashion that this fashionista gives two thumbs up.

The team behind the Trash Cat Clothing Exchange has been popping up for a while at monthly happy hours where you can wine, dine, and trade in vintage and contemporary clothes in exchange for something “new” from the Trash Cat’s offerings.

This winter, the exchange is expanding into a month-long celebration of swapping at the Pleasant Plains Workshop, just a stone’s throw (literally) from Howard University’s campus.

Swapping, selling, and trading clothing is just half the fun. The Washingtonian just shared a preview of the events planned, with a few photos of the vintage and vintage-inspired wares that the team will have on hand.

After an opening reception this Saturday evening from 4 to 8, catch up with the Trash Cats all month: A fashion show-slash-brunch event is slated for February 12 at neighborhood eatery Mama Chuy DC; Fashion Nerd Night will bring looks and brains together for discussion at the Looking Glass Lounge on February 19; and on February 25, the Trash Cats will have a blow out swap-o-rama (think buying, selling, and trading and lots of oohs and aahs) at the Pleasant Plains Workshop.

And in between the special events, you can stop by the workshop Thursday through Sunday for browsing and fashion exploration.

Sounds like the perfect fashion-forward activity to get this fashionista out of the house this winter! Bring on the swap love!
