It seems as if style for the home is forever changing. The truth is style is simply a recycling effect. Ever so often what was considered retro or even vintage will come to the forefront as popular and trendy again. When this happens you can be sure a majority of the population will jump on board.

The amazing thing about being a regular shopper at Goodwill, as well as other thrift stores, is the fact that one can build a great foundation for what is current by simply being creative while shopping.

As a modern guy on a budget I often look to Goodwill to help furnish my home. Whether it be lamps, fabrics, mirrors or picture frames, sometimes Goodwill can honestly be your one stop shop.

For the longest time I have collected brass pieces. Whether lamps, trays or even vases, brass has always been a mainstay in my home. It appears that brass is becoming a current trend in home décor as of late. I am not so sure if I am excited about this, but it is good to know that I am somewhat ahead of the curve.

If you take time to scour the shelves at your local Goodwill you will find there is an abundance of unique brass pieces, like my brass lamps pictured above. Many of these brass pieces are in pristine condition while others can benefit from a can of spray paint.

Often a can of spray paint or a few yardage of fabrics can breathe new life into a dated piece.

This sofa was only $19.99 in my local Goodwill. I am sure it was one of the ugliest donations they received, thats probably why it was priced so low. Despite this apparent misfortune I saw great potential in this piece.

I brought it home and immediately began brainstorming about fabric options. After going through some reasonable options I was able to settle on a nice neutral grey fabric, which incidentally is a current color trend in home décor.

It doesn’t matter what one’s budget is, shopping thrift through Goodwill can always lead to timeless and sometimes trendy results.

Mr. Goodwill Hunting blogs about  styling his “home” and “life” with pieces from Goodwill and other amazing thrift stores, with occasional full priced items thrown in. NOW is the time to live well. Whether you have $10 or $10,000, style and comfort comes at all price points. So, journey with Rashon Carraway, a southern bred gentleman and he will show you how you can do much with little. mr.goodwillhunting@gmail.com

Great post Mr. Goodwill Hunting! I love that sofa makeover. I have also found some great stuff at GW. You just need to keep an open mind when you go in and imagine the possibilities. It’s amazing what a little spray paint can do ;-)

I am totally pumped!!! I am creating my Studio (I design Christmas ornaments). I am heading to thrift stores, etc. tomorrow to start looking for lamps, end tables, storage units, etc.. Have my color scheme decided on and style of furniture I want to look forward. I have a feeling you have created a thrift store monster.
