It’s Columbus Day, dear readers, which means many of you are reading today’s blog from your couch instead of your cubicle. Don’t forget, though, that all of our retail locations are open for business today…it’s the perfect time to drop off your donations and stop in to search for a new treasure to take home!

October is a big month for us here, and we wanted to share three easy ways (in honor of the three ships that brought Columbus and Co. across the Atlantic, natch) for you to get involved and show support for our mission.  Pick one or two or join us in all three!smile

  1. October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (Disability.gov Campaign for Disability Employment) and in recognition, we’ve kicked off another one of our wildly popular Share a Smile Campaigns.  Purchase a “Smiling G” at the register for only $1 at any DC-area Goodwill store, write your name on it, and join a visible mosaic of smiles!  All proceeds go towards funding free job training programs.
  2. Have you “Like”-d Goodwill of Greater Washington on Facebook yet?  What are you waiting for?!  Every month we offer a FREE coupon…just click on the “Coupons” tab, click on the “Claim Coupon” button, allow the application to access your profile information and you’re all set!  This month Facebook fans receive 25% off all mens’ and womens’ used sweaters, just in time for cool weather ahead.
  3. Join us on October 16th at the 2010 DC Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle Expo for a Goodwill Trunk Show from 12-6PM.  Held at the Washington DC Convention Center, the Expo features ANTM’s Nigel Barker, Korto Momolu will of Project Runway, and yours truly, the DC Goodwill Fashionista!  Discount tickets are available online and the first 500 attendees receive a complementary makeover.  What better way to put your best face forward than to complement it with your favorite fashions from Goodwill?  We’ll see you there!
