Attention, Metal Heads! If you like metal, you will love this trend. Chains, chain mail, and disco-style metal mesh. It’s here, and it’s fierce.

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall 2009 chain mail minidress topped with a leather sleeveless vest is the epitome of tough chic. As part of his couture line, it is somewhat hard, if not impossible, to actually find and purchase for most of us mere mortals. Still, it is a thing of beauty to behold.

To get “real real” for the rest of us, I’ve tracked down some more accessible pieces that can be found and had for more reasonable prices.

To start with clothing, we have this adorable Haute Hippie minidress of navy silk with brass chain mail links. This dress was featured on
Gossip Girl and is now sold out. However, you can find it on ebay, and the good news about that is that it is much, much cheaper than retail that way.

Alexander Wang has a nice interpretation of chain mail with this sheer fabric link sweater. The weave of the fabric is 25% metal. Available at
Alice & Olivia top. They have added chain link trim to the bottom of the sleeves of this top. Not too much, just enough to make a statement.

For the bargain hunters among us, and who isn’t one,
Charlotte Russe has this edgy tank top with metallic chain fringe trim. At a very reasonable $24.99, everyone can afford to get into this trend.

Jewelry is another reasonable way to add some metal to your life without going broke. A few of my favorite economical finds: Forever 21 Chain Mail Bracelet, $8.80, in gold and silver; Martin & Osa earrings for $19.50, matching cuff bracelet, $39.50; and finally, this elegant drop chain necklace for $35 at Harmony Lane.

Rock On!
