It’s almost here, dear readers: the Travelin’ Trunk Show at Marimekko! And today’s Goodwill Good Buy of the Week is a preview of the great vintage fall merchandise you’ll find there this Thursday, August 21, from 5pm until closing. And just what treasure will you find there?
How about this groovy vintage hand-sewn men’s lounge robe in goldenrod hued velveteen. It’s unlined and features two front patch pockets and a contrasting shawl collar and cuffs in a black, chocolate brown, and burnt orange geometric patterns.
There are belt loops, but no belt, and slight wear on the fabric at the elbows, but otherwise this piece is in fantastic shape. And the sewer’s tag is on the inside: “Fashioned by Jane Wirtz.” You see, dear readers, this article of clothing happens to be of famous provenance.
I can’t say too much, but Google “Jane Quisenberry Wirtz” and you’ll get an idea of what I’m talking about.
Big thanks to Shawn, our Web & Graphic Design Manager, for modeling this awesome vintage look.
Jane Wirtz also sewed and beaded the next piece you’ll see on Thursday, this funky velveteen vest with leaf detail. It’s pretty much the exact color you see, a kind of brick-colored reddish-hued tannish sort of neutral. But the beads!
The beads are white, blue, purple, yellow, green, brown, red, pink, iridescent, turquoise…just about every color one can imagine. And they’re exquisitely sewn on by hand and back by a hunter-green acetate lining. There’s just one tiny spot on the inside of the right front where the beads have been repaired, but from the front you can’t tell. What a great piece!
And thank to Kwabuaa, our Development Associate, for modeling the vest against basic black. It would look equally fashionable with a white tee and faded denim, or over a maxi dress with a pair of cowboy boots.
Both of these pieces, plus over 100 more for both men and women, will be available for purchase on Thursday. That’s right, these pieces aren’t going online right now. But anything that doesn’t sell at the vintage trunk show will be listed on shopgoodwill.com next week, so keep an eye out for that! You didn’t think I’d forget about all you out-of-towners and evening shift workers, did you? Of course not! The DCGF has fashion love for all. See you Thursday!
